User Guide

Everything you need to know to use MCAT Prep effectively

Quick Start

  1. Click Start Practice on the Dashboard (or the Practice tab)
  2. Pick a section (CP, CARS, BB, PS) or choose All Sections
  3. Choose a mode — start with Tutor Mode to see explanations immediately
  4. Set question count (start with 10-15)
  5. Click Start Practice Session and answer questions!
  6. Review your results and explanations after finishing

Practice Modes

Tutor ModeStart here

See the correct answer + explanation immediately after each question. Best for learning new material and understanding concepts.

Timed ModeAfter accuracy > 60%

Countdown timer (~1.5 min/question). Auto-submits when time runs out. Builds speed and simulates test pressure.

Untimed ModeDeep practice

No timer. Answer at your own pace. Review all answers at the end. Great for thorough, careful practice.

Exam ModeFinal prep

Uses real MCAT section timing. Full simulation of test-day conditions.

During a Practice Session

Answering Questions
  • Click an answer (A, B, C, or D) to select it
  • Right-click a choice to strike it through (elimination strategy)
  • In Tutor Mode, the explanation appears immediately after selecting
Passage-Based Questions
  • Screen splits: passage on the left, question on the right
  • Click the collapse button to hide/show the passage
  • The passage stays visible as you navigate its questions
Flagging Questions
  • Click the flag icon or press F to mark for review
  • Flagged questions show as orange in the navigation grid
  • Flag questions you want to revisit — even if you got them right

Tracking Your Progress

Analytics Page
  • Overall accuracy across all sessions
  • Accuracy by section — bar chart showing CP, CARS, BB, PS
  • Attempts by section — see where you're spending time
  • Section breakdown table — detailed question counts and accuracy
  • Recent sessions — track scores over time

Use this to identify your weakest sections and focus your study time there.

Adding Questions

Import via JSON
  1. Go to the Import page
  2. Drag & drop a JSON file or click Browse
  3. Preview shows question count and validates format
  4. Click Import — questions appear immediately

Study Tips

Start with Tutor Mode
Learn the explanations before testing under pressure.
Review every wrong answer
Understanding WHY you got it wrong is more valuable than more questions.
Flag uncertain questions
Even if you guessed correctly — flag it and review the explanation.
Track analytics weekly
Focus study time on your weakest sections.
Build up to timed practice
Once accuracy is above 60%, start using Timed Mode.
Do full section simulations
59-question timed sections in the weeks before your test.
